Live online presentation • 60–90 minutes, including Q&A

What happens when a dog or cat is bitten by a venomous snake? How serious can it be, and what can modern veterinary medicine do to help?

Western diamondback rattlesnake

Join Dr. Cory Woliver for an informative look at how North American venomous snakes affect our pets, including the important differences between pit viper bites (rattlesnakes, copperheads, and cottonmouths) and coral snake bites. He'll explain what happens during envenomation, how veterinarians assess the severity of a bite, and how antivenom and supportive care can help save lives.

He'll also tackle some of the most common misconceptions about snakebite treatment, including the roles of familiar medications such as Benadryl, steroids, and antibiotics. Whether you're a pet owner, a veterinary professional, or simply curious about the science, you'll learn what works, what doesn't, and why getting the right treatment quickly can make such a difference.

The presentation will include a live question-and-answer session, giving you an opportunity to ask Dr. Woliver your own questions.
